My Favorite Ground Snowboard Trick – How To Tail Tap Revert

By Grover Koelpin 22 comments

What’s up guys! Kevin here from SnowboardProCamp. In this video I want to give you guys some tips on how to do my favorite ground trick, the tail tap revert. This is a fun trick because there are so many things you can tap as you ride the slopes. For this video we’re tapping a piece of bamboo that we grabbed off the lifties. Let’s start by breaking down each step of the tail tap revert. So, I’m riding in with pressure on my toe edge, , this will give me a solid base to pop from. As I pop into the air I do a small front side shifty to get the tap. At the same time I’m setting up the revert, by turning my upper body backwards, then twisting a back 180, , landing with pressure on my heel edge. You can see that there are actually two separate tricks working together. To make learning this trick easy, let’s break it down into two parts the front shifty and back 180. For a front shify twist your body in the air by turning your upper body back, as you turn your lower body and board forward. By twisting in the air like this you can get your board completely sideways, then untwist for the landing. Doing a solid front shifty is key for getting the tap. For the back 180 pop clean into the air off your toes, turning you upper body backwards then twisting your lower body and snowboard to get the 180 around. This twisting 180 is the exact same motion you’ll use to complete the revert off the tap. . Tapping will actaully rebound your board and help you snap the 180 around quickly.
Once you’re confident with the front shifty and twisting back 180 you can combine them to get the tap and revert out. The most common mistake I have when trying this trick is going for the tap too late. You can see in this clip that I pop into the air a bit too late and miss the tap. Now I know that on the next attempt I need to pop a bit earlier. So that’s the tail tap revert, I hope you guys enjoy this trick as much as I do. If you have any questions or if you have any tips for this trick you can leave them in the comment section. Hey man, what boots are you riding? I'm going to buy a pair of new boots this season, but I'm not sure which one. I've been looking at the Burton Ion's, great reviews but I'm not sure if the boots are too stiff or not. I'm a typical all-mountain rider, mostly groomers, but not afraid of some powder. I also like to hit some jumps and ground tricks, but I'm not really a park guy. What do you think, will the Ion's suit me well or should I look for something a bit softer?
