Hidden Figures Bathroom Speech Scene

By Grover Koelpin 100 comments

Where the hell have you been? Everywhere I look, you’re not where I need you to be. It’s not my imagination now where the hell do you go everyday? To the bathroom sir. To the bathroom? To the damn bathroom! For 40 minutes a day? What do you do in there? We’re T minus 0 here. I put a lot of faith in you. There’s no bathroom for me here. What do you mean there is no bathroom for you here? There is no bathroom. There are no coloured bathrooms in this building. Or any building outside the west campus, which is half a mile away. Did you know that? I have to walk the Timbuktu just to relieve myself. And I can’t use one of the handy bikes. Picture that Mr. Harrison! My uniform; skirt below my knees, my heels, and a simple string of pearls. Well I don’t own pearls. Lord knows you don’t pay colours enough to afford pearls! And I work like a dog, day and night! Living off a coffee from a pot none of you want to touch! So, Excuse me. If I have to go the restroom a few times a day.

All credits to great actors in the entire movie. It made me aware of my own privileged life. Women are under rated even though they may be better than men. But having a coloured complexion makes it even harder to be estimated for who you are… a beautiful person inside and outside.

I watch these movies about racism and segregation and as a white/mixed breed all I can say on the inside is…..I’m sorry, I’m sorry for what my white ancestors did but I can never take back the hurt or pain. All I try to do each day is show that I’m not them. I give everyone a fair chance, I give everyone respect, politeness, and keep an open mind of everyone’s culture cuz growing up in foster homes from Hispanics to Asian, and African American groups I don’t ever wanna be seen as the ignorance as these white people here! But someone in one of my many homes once said it isn’t about what I want. Just keep true to yourself and if it’s good then others will see it too and it can open a window of positivity

As a female, back in those days, does anyone understand how humiliating it is to have to explain to a room full of men that you have to go to the bathroom? Then having to justify yourself why it takes so long to get there.

I'm no American, so cut me some slack…The producers and Yutub sure ain't gettin' all whimpery, otherwise they'd let this gem be seen for FREE! I did try a search and found a full length version recorded BACKWARDS for crisssake! like satanic dialogue! take that version down at least! it was creepy and traumatic! I live in Timbuktoo, so, like i said, cut me some slack…

Great film, but according to the book, this never happened. Katherine Johnson ignored the segregated signs. Also the Kevin Costner character didn't exist either. The book has much more detail than any film can possibly have.
